How does a young Munich startup end up cooperating with Karl Lagerfeld's cat? What sounds like a fairy tale has become reality for us. How this story came about and what's behind the exclusive cooperation LucyBalu x Choupette, we tell on this page.
Designer Karl Lagerfeld has left his mark on the fashion industry. The "Emperor" was undisputedly one of the most influential designers of his time. He remained true to his style and yet eternally curious. Karl Lagerfeld stood for clarity and took clear positions. He remained true to himself until the end. This is another reason why he has become an important figure of inspiration for us.
Choupette, his cat, was also his great love. The fashion czar once said he would marry Choupette if it was legal. Because of this special liaison, Choupette has become famous all over the world. Today, the beautiful blue-eyed Burmese cat lives shielded from the public eye with Françoise Caçote, who was very close to Karl Lagerfeld himself. From our own experience, we can say that in a certain way you feel the aura of Karl Lagerfeld when you are in a room with Choupette.
We founded LucyBalu in 2019 and we are just at the beginning of our mission. A cooperation with Choupette was THE possibility for us to bring our modern cat furniture closer to the world. After several attempts, we managed to contact the agent of Choupette at the beginning of 2020. We were able to convince him to give our startup a chance and send one of our hammocks to Françoise
What came next exceeded all expectations. Choupette chose our hammock as her new favorite place. And the Choupette family was thrilled with our story and our products. A dream became reality overnight. Together we designed the special edition SWING hammock for Choupette. A limited edition that would live up to the style code of a Karl Lagerfeld.
For us it was important to photograph Choupette in her natural environment and not in a photo studio. Therefore, in the summer of 2020, we visited Choupette in Paris. We spent three whole days with her and her team. For the first time ever, a stranger was allowed to take photos and film in Choupettes' new home. It was an unforgettable trip to Paris for us.
The result is not only a unique product, but also a friendship with Françoise, Choupette and the whole #teamchoupette. The whole project makes us incredibly proud and we are looking forward to further collaboration. The special edition of the SWING hammock is the start of the LucyBalu x Choupette collaboration.
