In theory, yes — but we recommend cleaning it by hand. The round cylinder inside the fountain can easily get damaged or break off in the dishwasher. If you clean it carefully by hand with a mild detergent instead, your Trevi stays beautiful for longer and you avoid unnecessary damage.
Even if your TREVI runs non-stop all year round, its power consumption is minimal. The pump uses just 0.25 Wh, which works out to around 2.19 kWh a year. At an electricity price of 40 cents per kWh, that's under 1 euro a year — about 0.88 euros, to be precise. So you can safely leave your Trevi running all the time — it's economical, efficient, and quiet.
Yes — the pump is virtually silent. All you'll hear is a gentle trickle of water, which many cats even find soothing. Especially skittish cats might still keep their distance at first. Our tip: scatter a few treats around the fountain and praise your cat when it approaches or drinks. That way, it gets used to the new drinking ritual at its own pace.
Always unplug the fountain before cleaning or servicing it. Make sure the power adapter and plug don't get wet. Use only mild cleaning products and rinse all parts thoroughly before putting them back. That way, your TREVI stays beautiful, quiet, and reliable for a long time — and your cat gets to enjoy it, too.
The red LED shows that the water level is too low. Top up the fountain right away so the pump doesn't run dry. Never let the TREVI run without water or with too little water — this can damage the pump.
Yes, you can use tap water. But if your water is particularly hard, we recommend using filtered or descaled water instead (from a Brita filter, for example). That way, you avoid quick limescale build-up and extend the life of your pump.
Over time, limescale, dust, food residue, and cat hair can build up in the pump and filter. This can affect performance or trigger the red LED. Regular cleaning keeps your fountain running quietly, hygienically, and reliably — so your cat always has fresh, clean water.
We recommend giving the fountain a thorough clean every 1–2 weeks, depending on use and water quality. In areas with hard or limy water, you should descale the pump more often (see point 2) to prevent build-up. The filter should also be changed regularly — at least every 2 months — to keep the water fresh and clean.
Make sure to unplug the fountain before cleaning it. Then follow these steps: 1. Remove the large plastic cap with the filter. 2. Take off the round cover inside. 3. Carefully remove the small propeller — ideally with tweezers or pliers. 4. Soak all the parts in vinegar cleaner or descaling solution for about 30 minutes to loosen limescale and dirt. 5. Rinse everything thoroughly with clean water and put the pump back together. Then top up with fresh water, insert a new filter, and reconnect the fountain — your TREVI will be running like new again.
