What cat whiskers have to do with the design of our food bowls

Let us explain:

Cats can analyze changes within their field of vision up to 70 times per second. This ability is especially important because, unlike humans, their focus when seeing isn't on colors and patterns, but on movement.

Cats' eyes can't properly focus on objects closer than about 30 cm. And this is exactly where their whiskers come into play. To overcome this blind spot, the whiskers fan out within a fifth of a second to feel out the object. This allows the cat's brain to determine the exact position of moving objects. And that simply through the contact of the whiskers, which bend slightly on contact.

Whiskers can detect even the tiniest air vibrations.

But it's exactly this sensitivity that makes it so uncomfortable for cats when their whiskers touch the edges of their food bowl. That's why, when designing our BOWLS for the DINE and DELI, we made a point of ensuring that the flat shape prevents contact with the whiskers.

Our conclusion: It's uncomfortable for cats when their whiskers touch the bowl while eating. Yet many cat owners use bowls that are too deep, which are actually unsuitable for eating. Unfortunately, our beloved companions can't talk to us, or they would certainly demand loudly their right to animal-friendly food bowls. Still, we listened to our furry housemates and let their needs guide our product development.
