Cats are among the most popular pets worldwide. They are affectionate, playful and provide their owners with a constant source of joy. But there is one thing that challenges many cat owners – and perhaps you too: scratching.

Cats are known to scratch furniture, carpets, walls and other objects. Suddenly your beautiful furniture doesn't look quite so beautiful any more.
For this reason, many cat owners are looking for a solution to this problem. If you're already despairing of it too: we can reassure you, the solution is very simple. Getting suitable (and enough!) scratching furniture for your cat will quickly put things right!

Scratching furniture gives cats a suitable place to scratch, thus protecting your furniture, carpets and walls from damage. Cat scratching furniture is specifically designed for scratching and offers various surfaces that meet a cat's scratching needs. They are often made from sisal. Sisal furniture comes in various designs, such as wall-mounted scratching trees, scratching boards oder scratching posts.

Why do cats scratch objects?

Cats are known for scratching walls and furniture. There are several reasons why cats have this habit:

  • A main reason is that scratching is a way for cats to mark their territory.
  • Furthermore, scratching helps cats to sharpen and clean their claws.
  • Scratching can also be a form of physical and mental relaxation and help to reduce stress.
  • Another reason for scratching is exercise and training of the muscles. Indoor cats in particular, who cannot go outside, need this kind of exercise to stay healthy and fit.
  • Finally, scratching can also serve to remove worn-out claw sheaths.

What helps against cats scratching objects?

If you want your cat to stop scratching objects – like your furniture – there are a few things you can do:

  • One option is to make unwanted scratching spots inaccessible or unattractive. For example, you can apply double-sided tape or aluminium foil to the scratching spot to discourage cats from scratching.
  • Another option is to place fragrant substances like lemon peel or cinnamon on the scratching spot. This also works wonderfully if you want to keep your cats away from flower pots.
  • The most sustainable and most cat-friendly approach, however, is to provide your cat with dedicated scratching furniture. These can be scratching treesKratzbretter oder Kratzstämme which are specially developed for cats and have a robust surface that allows scratching.
  • An additional tip: your cat should have a scratching option available in every room if possible, so that the unwanted behaviour can be redirected most effectively.

With this scratching furniture you'll get your cat's scratching habits ander control:
