Why is stainless steel hygienic? This question isn't just interesting — it's crucial when it comes to your cat's health and the cleanliness of your home. Stainless steel is the material of choice in medical facilities, the hospitality industry, and food production whenever high hygiene standards are required. But why is that?

A study by Manchester Metropolitan University examined the germ resistance of stainless steel. The study compared polished copper surfaces with stainless steel. Both surfaces were first coated with a liquid containing staphylococci. They were then dried and placed in an incubator at 25°C. The surfaces were subsequently cleaned using the standard cleaning products used in hospitals. Finally, the remaining amount of germs on both surfaces was measured.

The result was impressive: after just two days, no germs could be detected on either surface. But from the second day onward, significant differences appeared. Germs began to reappear on the copper surfaces, while the stainless steel surfaces remained virtually germ-free. The biofilm that formed on the copper could no longer be removed without the use of disinfectants.

This study, along with other research, has shown that stainless steel is particularly hygienic for several reasons:

• Odor-free: Stainless steel is also unbeatable when it comes to odor neutrality. • Free of harmful substances: Unlike plastic, stainless steel doesn't release harmful particles even under heavy use — not even when in contact with feces, urine, and cleaning agents.
